Naked Body of Dreams

The face of the Maker bends in love
and leans into the open cradle of the world,
smiles with the adoration of a parent, then
gingerly touches lips on the eastern horizon
to kiss the still slumbering skin of Earth.
Sacred affection unfolds like flower petals
that in the gentle curl of gradual opening
releases the treasure of another dawning day.
And there is light. Blessed, brilliant light.
Lambent embers suffuse the sky with gold
in the stretch of morn, as if itself awaking.
Let it come. Let it flood the whole of heaven.
Cascade down as water spills in the rain
until our faces are fully lit in its splendor
and all that eyes may behold arises,
afloat upon the incoming solar tide.

About the Poem

This poem was written on the occasion of the Winter Solstice, at which time the axis of the Earth shifts, turning the northern hemisphere where I live back into the sun. This makes for longer days, which makes me a much happier person.

This poem is previously unpublished in print. This poem was finished December 22, 2005.
